Tools and resources

Travelife properties have access to a variety of online tools and resources to help them prepare for a successful audit, and to promote their sustainability achievements.

Evergreen

Evergreen is the Travelife Certifications system. It was custom-built especially for Travelife accommodation providers to manage audits and certifications. It contains a profile of each Travelife Member property (name, address, occupancy, star rating, etc.), their current certification status and the approved individual users that are associated with the property.

Travelife EPIT (Environmental Performance Improvement Tool)

EPIT  has been specially designed for Travelife Accommodation Providers to help them record and monitor their environmental performance, including their greenhouse gas emissions from energy, water and solid waste. This powerful yet simple software is available, free of charge, to all properties working with Travelife and can be accessed from the Evergreen certifications system.

EPIT allows you to easily record and monitor your monthly environmental metrics in a way that meets the Travelife Certification Requirements. It is specifically designed to work anywhere in the world for people of any experience level.

It automatically converts the data you enter to standard metric measurements, and converts your energy, water and waste measurements to carbon equivalent emissions. After you enter your monthly actual guest nights, EPIT will automatically calculate your guest night averages. It also has the ability for properties to enter their gross floor area so they can view their average greenhouse gas emissions per square metre.

As you enter your measurements each month, the powerful reporting function automatically updates. This makes it quick and easy to produce useful and accurate monthly and annual reports. These reports include comparisons to previous years. This means that the longer you keep adding your measurements to EPIT, the more useful it becomes as a way of analysing your performance over time. This allows you to see how well you are progressing towards your environmental goals, which efforts you are taking are working and where you might need to make changes.

If you are working towards long-term environmental targets, you can set a ‘benchmark year’ in your property profile. Once you have entered your data for the benchmark year, you can begin comparing your annual performance in subsequent years to your starting point. You can do this for long as you wish, allowing you to monitor how you are performing over an extended period.

The customer support website

Accessed from Evergreen, this website contains hundreds of guides, templates, examples and e-learning modules. These have all been written by Travelife especially to help properties learn about accommodation sustainability and how to comply with the Travelife Certification Requirements.

From 2025, all of these guides will be available in English, Spanish, Greek and Turkish. Some of the downloadable resources are available in other languages.

Travelife Certification Requirements with guidance notes

Each section of the Travelife Certification Requirements has its own e-learning module. For those that do not wish to complete e-learning, the content of these is also available as a ‘detailed guide’ that can be viewed onscreen or downloaded as a PDF.

Guides, templates and examples

There is a guide for each of the 143 Travelife Certification Requirements. This is to help you when you are not sure how to comply with a specific requirement or would simply like to learn more about it.

Each of these guides contains links to other relevant tools and resources such as templates, examples and e-learning.

Travelife annual sustainability assessment

The annual sustainability assessment (requirement A9) is very important. You will find it difficult to comply with several other requirements if you have not done this carefully and thoroughly. Although you can carry out the assessment any way that you like, we recommend you use the assessment tool we have created. It has been specifically designed to cover all of the necessary areas and to help you use the assessment to help you comply with the other relevant requirements.

This tool is available in English, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, Portuguese, French, German, Dutch, Arabic, Thai and Swahili.

E-learning

There are over 20 different modules covering the certification requirements and “core sustainability knowledge” topics such as greenhouse gas emissions and fair labour.

These are free for any staff member at a property working with Travelife and they are anonymous meaning that Travelife cannot see who has completed these and what the results of their assessments were.

Audit preparation

There are a number of resources available on the support website to help you prepare for both inspection and check-up audits. For example, our Audit Preparation checklist that contains a list of documents auditors are most likely going to ask for.

There is also a step-by-step guide to the Travelife Certification process and video tutorials showing you how to use Evergreen to manage your audit.
