Located in the centre of Lisbon, this property has a tradition of operating responsibly and in harmony with the environment.  They have taken various climate actions such as ensuring that 100% of their energy is renewable and investing in more environmentally efficient technology.

Biodiversity forms a central part of their environmental strategy, as it should for all businesses taking climate action as we have discussed in our May 2022 blog post that you can read aquí.   Perhaps most effective in a range of actions the property takes is their support of programmes aimed restoring and preserving ecosystems that can remove carbon from the atmosphere.  

Most recently they supported a reforestation project that was led by Quercus, a Portuguese environmental organisation.  This project involved around 2,000 native cork oak trees being planted in the Mata Nacional da Machada, a national forest located just outside Lisbon.

Naturally drought and fire resistant, and able to thrive in the area’s natural terrain, cork oaks offer a resource efficient way to remove carbon and to encourage the development of natural ecosystems that will further protect and support the local area.  Participation in this project enabled the hotel to offset all 164 tonnes of the emissions they generated in 2019 whilst educating staff and other stakeholders about the urgent need to protect and support biodiversity.

Since 2021, Inspira Liberdade Boutique Hotel has been a member of act4nature Portugal (promoted by BCSD Portugal), a global initiative from France that aims to mobilise companies to take proactive measures that will safeguard and restore biodiversity.  Companies that join act4nature must agree to ten biodiversity commitments that you can read about aquí.
