Introducing Kamelya Fulya Hotel in Turkey, our April Hotel of the Month for energy efficiency
Each month in 2021 we feature a property that has made outstanding achievements in sustainability. Our theme in April is energy and carbon emissions, so read on to find out what Fulya Hotel has done in this area...
The Kamelya Fulya Hotel was chosen to be the Travelife hotel of the month due to their investment in technology that reduces their reliance on carbon emitting fuels to provide energy to their property. The hotel, located in Antalya province, has installed 435 solar panels that are used to supplement consumption of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) for heating water. Whilst LNG is considered a lower emission form of energy than fossil fuels such as oil and coal, it still has a significantly higher carbon impact than solar energy.
They also use both air and water sourced heat pumps to supplement their solar panels. Air source heat pumps extract heat from the outside air and use it to to provide both water and air heating inside buildings. Water source heat pumps operate in a similar way but extract heat from an external water source. They also use energy efficient technology for lighting and cooling throughout the property.
Winner of a Trip Advisor Travelers' Choice Award in 2020, the property is located on a Blue Flag beach, this international label shows that the beach meets 32 criteria relating to the environment, safety and accessibility.
