Each month in 2021 we feature a property that has made outstanding achievements in sustainability. Our theme in October is animal welfare and we selected Škvor Holiday Farmhouse due to the way they have incorporated animals into a more sustainable operation.
They say that the best things come in small packages, and perhaps that is true for this small property located in Slovenia’s beautiful Soča River Valley. At Travelife we work with all kinds of different hotels all over the world, from small properties like this one through to mega-resorts in major destinations. So we are proud to feature one of our smaller properties this month and to highlight the sustainability work that they do.
With just five rooms spread over three different guest houses, Škvor Holiday Farmhouse prides itself on offering free-range organic food along with friendly hospitality, and the animals that reside at the property play an important part in delivering a sustainable guest experience. Sheep make sure that the pastures are maintained properly whilst chickens provide fresh eggs for guests. There is also a cat and a rabbit that guests can interact with if they wish. All animals are provided with regular professional veterinary care and the chickens can roam freely about the farm.
One of our favourite things about this property is their ability to provide what they call a ‘zero kilometre lunch’, meaning that all the ingredients in your organic vegetarian lunch are produced right there on the farm, and the fact that they let guests help themselves at anytime from the vegetable garden.
Škvor Holiday Farmhouse reminds us that it is possible for animals to be a rewarding part of travel experiences whilst ensuring their wellbeing.
